Your complete safari packing guide – practical, no fluff. Includes budget & premium options for every individual.
Planning an African safari in 2025? This Safari Packing List is built from real travel experiences across Africa, Australia, India & more. Whether it’s your first time or you’re coming back for more, packing right can make your experience smoother and more enjoyable. This guide will help you figure out exactly what to carry from clothes and gear to must-have essentials. Safaris take you into remote areas where shops aren’t nearby, so it’s important to be prepared.
Safaris usually include early morning game drives, walking tours, or boat rides, often in open vehicles. Temperatures can change a lot during the day, so dress in layers and carry the essentials listed below:
Compact, durable, and safari-ready. Handpicked for your African or Indian adventures.
2. Small Backpack with pockets, sections Carry a small backpack for things you’ll need during the day — camera, sunscreen, water, etc. In our safari experiences across borders, we’ve seen guests either not carry these essentials or struggle to find them. That’s why we recommend a well-padded, multi-pocket backpack.
Soft-sided, durable, water-resistant — ideal for bush flights and rugged drives.
3. Windcheater/Rain Jacket
There’s a big misconception that Africa = blazing hot sun. Let us tell you, it gets equally cold and rainy. So carry a solid windcheater — if possible, one that’s waterproof.
Pro Tip: Buy one with UPF protection (like sunscreen in your clothes, UPF 50). It helps protect you from UV rays. Avoid blue and black colours as they attract tsetse flies.
Handpicked gear for a stress-free safari — tested for Indian & African terrain.
4. Safari Friendly Footwear
Comfortable footwear can make or break your safari. You never know if your next step is on a rock, in mud, dust, or worse — near a snake. Wear light, breathable, yet sturdy shoes. We’ve seen enough heels for that one Instagram picture that becomes a nightmare later.
Pro Tip: Don’t bring a brand-new pair of shoes to open on safari. If space allows, carry a spare sandal for long drives inside the vehicle.
Durable, stylish, and made for the wild—perfect for your safari packing list.
5. Sun Protection
You may love a sun tan, but it can turn into a disaster with skin and eye irritation that lasts for days. These aren’t the memories you want to take home. Carry a good UPF hat with a wide brim, SPF 50+ PA++++ sweat-resistant sunscreen, UV400 (or better) sunglasses, and a scarf or bandana to cover up during dusty rides.
Formulated with 4 very effective UV-filters, namely, Uvinul T 150, Avobenzone, Octocrylene and Titanium Dioxide to provide protection from UVA & UVB
6. Insect Protection
The wilderness is unpredictable. There’s no avoiding close contact with some of the creatures you’d rather skip. Insects are a key part of this ecosystem — but some can be harmful. Keep yourself covered with lightweight clothes that protect your arms and legs. Also carry a strong insect repellent and an anti-itch cream.
You might be in the wild, but comfort matters. Bring your essentials and add them in your Safari Packing List:
Travel-size unscented toiletries
Medications + extras (prescription meds, anti-malarials, motion sickness pills)
Spare eyeglasses/contact lenses
Wet wipes and hand sanitizer
Pro Tip: Avoid perfume or heavily scented items they attract bugs.
The right gadgets don’t just enhance your experience — they can make sure you don’t miss a moment.
Binoculars (Rent it or ask your Safari Expert to carry. They generally do.)
Camera with extra batteries and memory cards (You won’t get them in the middle of jungle, cheap.)
Headlamp or flashlight (Optional unless you have a night safari/trail/walk planned)
Reusable water bottle (stay hydrated during long drives)
Power bank & travel adaptor (Some 4×4 Landcruisers have power sockets but carry your travel adapter as well)
Pack light: Laundry is available in most lodges, so repeat outfits.
Stick to your safari company’s packing list: They know the local weather and terrain best.
Don’t overpack: Space is limited and there are strict weight limits on flights.
